Nivomats?

Am I right in thinking Nivomat self-levelling shocks were standard on the T-5R?

If so, judging by the accompanying picture, mine aren't levelling — filled it to the gunwales with stuff and it didn't look too happy.

Are these shocks available to buy? If so, where's the best place?

If not, or if they're prohibitively expensive are they serviceable?

Was that after a drive? Nivomats only level when driven.

I dont know about T5Rs. Is yours AWD or FWD?

Are you able to see a sticker or part number on the existing shocks? Also possibly any colour markings?

You may be ale to get part numbers from Volvo if you give them your VIN and other info from your VIN plate.

Various Nivos were available, and they are about £300 each AFAIK.
Not serviceable AFAIK.

Hi Tim,

Nivomats were standard on the T-5R Estate. They can be obtained new but are eye wateringly expensive - £400 or so each I believe. Previous recent threads have talked about where to get them and cost.

400-Ascona is quite right. If you have loaded the car up they will settle and look low - but as you drive they "pump up" and self-level If they are knackered, they don't pump up or fail to do so adequately. It could also mean the helper springs have gone weak. As a note, Nivomats are very reliable and last a long time - but like anything, they will eventually fail. My old C70 convertible had Nivomats and always looked low whenever parked, even without a load in the boot due, I think, to the springs being weak - but on the move they adjusted the ride height ok. Its worth getting someone to follow you and take a look or do a drive by.

As above. I often carry stupidly heavy loads in the back of mine, and after loading it looks ridiculous. 200 yards down the road (unless it's an extremely smooth road, which none of them are around here) and it's back up to level and you'd never know it had a load on board. Brilliant things, Nivomats.

As John said, the T-5R and 850R estates had Nivomats as standard.

They are definitely still available - I bought a pair for my 850R a few weeks ago. They're a shade under £450 each (inc VAT) but plus postage from FRF. It takes a week or two for them to come through as they're a special order item coming from Sweden - but they ARE available.

NB If you have a towbar on the back, you can pump up the Nivomats by jumping up and down on it. I did that a few times on one of my 940 estates that had them - I looked a lunatic, but it worked
