I replaced the car’s original disc horns with wind tone horns shortly after acquiring the car as I didn’t like the “peep, peep” Toad of Toad Hall sound that they produced.
The wind tones that I fitted were obtained from a different model Volvo ( cannot remember which model) in a breaker’s yard and they had the same connections as the one’s that I was removing. I’ve replaced them twice since, again with wind tones obtained from Volvos in a breaker’s yard. I think that the latest ones came off an S90.
They occasionally become intermittent, sometimes only one tone sounding. I tested the horns individually using a jump wire from the battery and then coupled together again using a jump wire and they sounded correctly. I’ve since investigated the wiring and connections through the steering wheel and buttons and decided that the weak point is the contacts under the buttons on the steering wheel spokes. If the horns become problematic then removing the buttons and cleaning the contacts seems to cure the problem for a while. I now try to remember to sound the horns at least once after taking the car out so that I know that they will sound if and when they are actually needed.

I've got a pair of horns from a 1999 Alfa Romeo GTV that I will be fitting to mine eventually. They're plastic too so no rot to contend with!

Much better location than standard and people certainly take notice when I lean on the horn, nearly made a bloke wet his pants when he walked out in front of me in a car park. 😂😂
