Default 940 Celebration Estate pollen filter

I understand that the 940 wasn't fitted with a pollen filter, but the 960 was.

Just to be absolutely sure where in the system is the replaceable pollen filter on the 960,and is there anyway of adding one to the 940 Celebration Estate.

I am currently having breathing difficulties so would like to check this out. It would be a pity to have to upgrade to a 960/V90 just to acquire a pollen filter!!
(apart from the leather seats etc.....)

TIA

Shaun

I don't think there ever was a pollen filter in the 960.

My 1993 960 did not have a pollen filter. However, I fitted my own by getting access to the fan intake via the engine space near to the n/s pillar, and purchasing a pollen filter for another car that would fit across the round intake and fixing it in place with garden wire. Worked a treat.

I don't think any 7/9xx cars had a pollen filter. Not sure even if the S/V90 had a pollen filter, both are still too early because as a general rule, pollen filters only seemed to arrive about 2000 ish. Yes, there were some cars that had them before then but also a lot that didn't get them until after, whether by addition to a revised heater box or because the car model was being facelifted and had a completely different heater box.

Martin have you got any pics of your conversion?

Dave, I've sold the car on about a year ago (replaced with a V70 diesel) but when I did the mod I posted some pics on this website. I'll have a look.

I think 940s and 960s with electronic climate control have some kind of filter. Look at part number 3506741. How user changeable it is I don’t know. I think it’s quite deeply buried behind the dash.

There is something in the FAQ about adding a homemade cabin filter.

That's not a pollen filter and needs the AC evacuated before removing the evaporator to remove the filter from it. It would stop leaves but nothing smaller than about 1/8" or 3mm diameter, never mind pollen that we can't see. THis is where it lives on my 760 - 9xx models with climate control will be similar :

In that rectangular opening. It's fixed to the evaporator though :

As you can see, not really a user-serviceable part! Primary function is to prevent the evaporator becoming clogged with leaves and other debris.

Dave is correct. That is a very coarse sort of open sponge designed only to stop leaves etc from getting into the passages. Once you get it out, just wash it in soapy water and replace. Its not a pollen filter....but my "diy" job described above is!

I just had a look at the FAQ's and couldn't see anything other than posts saying that the FAQ's had been updated. Could someone please guide me to the correct place?

TIA
