What's your usual cold-start procedure Joe?

To be honest I've always just turned it to stage two for a few seconds, put the clutch down and fired it up or attempted to.

That's correct, you should have always heard the fuel pumps prime in those first couple of seconds, can you still hear them?

That's interesting. No I can't hear them. Isn't there a quite common fault with the relay, sure that was an issue in my old 240

Also check the fuel pumps fuses, can't remember which they are but pull them out and check the blades are clean and shiny, a soft brass wire brush is good for cleaning them and refit tightly. You could also try "flicking" the starter to get the pumps to prime - briefly turn to position 3/start and release as soon as the starter begins to turn the engine - you should hear the pumps for a second or two then without switcing the ignition off try again to start. If that works you can either use it as a work-around or get yourself a new relay which should solve the problem.

Replaced the fuel pump relay. Still can't hear the pumps before start up but I'll see if it solves the starting issue

Thankyiu for all your help. The start issue has been fixed by replacing the fuel pump relay. I still can't hear the pumps priming but it is starting a driving perfectly since it had a new relay. Thanks once again. All the best.

You're welcome Joe, glad to hear the problem is solved. You might just have quiet pumps or maybe the heater fan or radio is drowning them out. Either way if it's starting as it should then it's all good!
