2005 2.0T C70 "boggy" throttle response
Having liked the look of them for ages, I recently finally got around to buying a first generation C70. Mine is a 2005, 05, 2.0T petrol, auto box.
It has been fairly well looked after, I think, with a pile of receipts from the most recent owner for suspension and brake work, full service including cambelt etc. However there have been a couple of foibles which I'm curious about: - occasionally the car seems to run rough (as if having fuelling problems) under low throttle. Not quite "kangaroo petrol" but enough to be noticeable to me when driving at e.g. ~1700rpm, 50mph and the car has selected top gear. If I use the selector to drop down to 4th the issue goes away, but that's not an ideal solution. - at lights / roundabouts, I've noticed a minor (fraction of a second) where instead of picking up smoothly when I push the accelerator, the engine revs die off, then surge - this isn't great when trying to pull out into traffic - on one occasion, I pulled out of a junction downhill onto a road to turn right, in a gap in traffic, then the engine stalled completely instead of picking up. The gap was big enough that the approaching car didn't hit me, but it wasn't great to have to pop the hazard lights on, get the car into park etc before being able to restart the engine and drive away. Anyone got experience or hints on these? I am assuming (hoping) it isn't an electronic throttle module issue as I thought those were dealt with by about model year 2003. |

I'll hazard a guess it's been recorded in the service history/receipts?
Just to add my twopence worth on a few other things worth doing/checking... Completely remove and thoroughly clean the throttle body and its butterfly valve if no knowledge of it being done. These usually get overlooked at service time as it's a little time consuming. Check the vacuum line/s coming off the inlet manifold for signs of perishing and or collapse. Replace where necessary. Coil packs...remove and inspect each one and make sure the spring inside the insulator is making contact with the top of the spark plug...extend slightly if necessary. Check the wiring to the Engine Coolant Temp sensor isn't making contact with anything...the black flexi plastic conduit usually deteriorates and can lead to chaffing of the harness.
