Default 854 shock absorber recommendations

My T5 saloon has been off the road for a few years, I've been doing some restoration work over recent times and whilst I was under it I noticed the struts are looking pretty ropey.
What shocks are we all running and how do you find them? It's on 40mm Apex springs, are the B6 Bilsteins too harsh for road use? I'm getting a van shortly so the Volvo will be used for occasional use.

Ben.

Hi Ben, I heard that the B6s were very firm so when I replaced the suspension on my 940 a while ago, I fitted the B4s along with Kilen lowering springs (same group as Lesjofors, the OEM manufacturers). That was a great combo - nice taut ride with good handling. I'd def go down the B4 route again.

Not an 850 experience, but hopefully still valid

I had heard the B6's were quite a bit stiffer, I'm definitely leaning towards some B4's for a more road biased ride.

Thanks for the input!

I agree with all - B6's are very harsh for ordinary day to day use. I have B4's on the back of my C70II T5 - they are very good for the money. Of course, if you want to splash the cash, you could go for Ohlins fully adjustable or Nitrons but both are very, very expensive. I used Nitrons on my TVR Cerbera 4.5 and when set up, the car was utterly transformed and a better ride to boot.
