Default Door rubber

Hi guys,

Where can I find a new door rubber for Volvo s80 2004 d5?

https://i.ibb.co/ZdJJmSS/image.png

I tried to look online but it seems it's only basic rubber.

Your best bet is eBay or a scrapper - to buy new from Scandix, https://www.skandix.de/en/spare-part...right/1024792/ you are looking at 156€ + P&P (8 to 10€) + any import tax ie at least £144 plus a hold up for a few days for it to clear Dutch, Belgian or French customs benefit of Brexit!

Import tax of £144 is a tad steep, isnt it around the price of our VAT plus import duty (handling charges)?

£156 for item
£8 euro for shipping
Total £164
Plus

VAT @ 20% = £32.80¹
Post office handling charge (customs duty) about 2.5% = £4.10¹

Total charges = £36.90
Grand total = £200.90

¹ includes item and shipping costs

My apologies, I should have expressed myself more clearly. VAT is included in the 156€ + P&P (8€ to 10€) ie a total of 166€ or approx £144 + any import tax aka customs duty and the Royal Mail handling charge if it is applied.

I recently bought a TomTom thinking it was sold in the UK as the price including VAT on the website was shown in £s - it wasn't. It was sent from Holland.
However, I wasn't charged any import tax or any handling charge, but it did get held up at the Dutch exit port/border for several days.

Ah, i got ya, makes sense.
In my experience, its luck of the draw as to whether you get stitched this side of the water.

There is a low-end cut-off of about £35 quid i think, anything above that could be subject to import duties.

How does it work now that we aren't in the EU?
Can an EU country charge us UK VAT?
I always thought that we got charged 3 items when importing,
1, VAT
2, customs handling
3, courier handling
I had to pay 3 items when i bought a watch many moons ago, perhaps all changed now? been a while since i have bought anything outside of the EU that was over the cut-off, bought plenty of rubbish from China with no charge though lol

is that shipping charge checked recently?

only ask because last time I checked it was about £60 shipping minimum. went up suddenly with brexit as the excuse no doubt, shameful profiteering

edit: currently €36 . still, substantially more than €8

Couple of suggestions, try Volvo - you might be surprised at what is available and the pricing.

Second, have a look at the various door/boot/universal seals this ebay seller has. I think they are also willing to make seals from a sample length as well but you'd need to ask if you can't find anything close :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231888851340

(Item only used as a means of linking to seller)

Also think "outside the box" - just because it doesn't specifically say Volvo in the listing doesn't mean that it's not right, if it's the right profile and sizes, it'll fit.

For example, aside from one very minor detail that i can live without, that Cortina boot seal is identical to the OE boot seal on my other car, a car launched 10 years after the Mk3 Cortina was put out to grass although in fairness, Ford used the same profile for later Cortinas.

Not being able to see the seal in question from your photo (nice door by the way! ) it's tricky to make further suggestions as there could be two seals associated with that part, there are on my 1988 760, an inner and an outer seal, one on the door, t'other on the body.

Hope you can find something suitable from that link!

You are correct....I only managed to look at the shipping price within Germany and completely missed that to the UK!

Might be worth contacting the company and finding out if they can produce it to a pattern/drawing/sample?
