{Theme tune to Only Fools and Horses playing in the background} ...I'd be well up for a viewing on that car if only to meet the personality (!) (If you look at his other videos he seems to be flipping other classic cars but doesn't seem to have a garage - everything is filmed in the street)

“Not too often I get excited about cars”. It’s a “PS44”? Don’t worry we’ll buff it all up! Only 44,000 miles! How would he know?
A very, very close inspection is definitely in order. |

Talk to Rob at Amazon Cars, he knows them inside out and has a lot of spares for them. He might also have knowledge of that particular car, after all there aren't that many in the country.

I'm inclined to agree with Simon, Alan. The fact that the dealer seems not to know a great deal about the car does not necessarily mean that it is a wrong'un.
My initial comment was intended less as a reflection of the car and more on the apparent lack of professionalism on the part of the dealer - my apologies for any confusion caused and if I'm misjudging him! If you really fancy the car, you owe it to yourself to either inspect it personally or have someone do so on your behalf. They don't come along that often, and it could equally well be a good'un! Regards, John.

I think even if you are only hlaf interested in the car the 300 mile trip is worth meeting the personality! ##### I'm firmly of the opinion that buying a car from a dealer is always the worst scenario - 9 times out of 10 they do not know the car. When buying a car from a dealer or a flipper you always miss out on the connection with the owner. When viewing cars being sold by owners you can tell a lot from the owner - if the owner is a bell end for example you can safely walk away from the car in the knowledge it will only bring you trouble! Unfortunately the behaviour of the dealer bears little resemblence to the condition of the car. The dealer's behaviour is only really relevant if you want some sort of waranty... ...the condition of the car looks pretty nice in pictures. BUT as said above you really need to be there in person to see it for yourself. I wouldn't be surprised if it is already sold.

Besides, we should all encourage Alan, if only for the thread that he would inevitably write on it. After reading his story of the Royal Barge, I can't wait to see that one! Come on, Alan, you know you want to! I bet you've even thought of a name for it?! Regards, John.

I will be interested to hear what the car is like if you view it. Price is a little bit high, I would say, unless it is exceptional. Having said that, there are so few offered for sale in UK it is difficult to say what is a fair price. European prices at dealers can certainly be quite high. It will be a B16, one of the first PV544's. Should be 4 speed, although some of the first ones were 3 Speed.
A lot of 544's get snapped up by the classic rally brigade. Enjoyed mine ever since buying it in 2014, and used it on DiD last weekend. I bought privately, dealers are often clueless about rarer cars. have a look at the Volvotips website for detailed information about the model. |
