LPG conversion on a 2.4
Morning all.
Not quite as planned, but as I've mentioned in another post I unexpectedly own a 2005 V70 2.4 Auto. It's actually quite nice..... But the fuel economy is shocking. I picked the car up cheaper than part ex price, so was considering getting it LPG converted. Does anyone have any experience of this? Would it be worth it? Can anyone suggest a company/person? Thanks all. |

Not one worked properly. At the very least engine management light on (MOT fail), misfires, not changing from Petrol to LPG. The list went on and on! I would certainly LPG a car myself as I like large capacity large vehicles and it looks as though diesels are no longer here for the duration. However I am an engineer and could/would probably read up on the conversion and do it myself having it certified by a local specialist. If you intend to pay someone to do it, and intend to pay someone to fix it each time it goes wrong you won’t recover the costs. So if you are a mechanic/machinist/competent home mechanic covering large miles then yes. What a fascinating subject. If you intend to hand it over to ‘the professionals’ it will probably bankrupt you. |

Thanks. Great reply.
I'm very engineering/mechanically minded and do most of my own work so I may look at DIY. It's just not one of those things you do every day so would need to read some guides first. |

I do also hear from those same friends that they would drop the oil at 6K and it was still honey yellow. If you are mechanically minded then yes go for it. Nothing wrong with getting a machine shop to drill out your manifold etc etc and pay a few quid here and there. But you can then certify it and do it yourself. |

From what I have seen on Range Rover forums, LPG is becoming scarce, and not being pushed as an alternative fuel anymore. You could end up fitted the kit, and have nowhere to fill up.
2nd topic today on a 2.4 with shocking mpg....others (including me) easily achieve 30 mpg+ - is that shocking?

It's more a case of being 'a bit low' than 'shockingly low' (18.3 mpg recorded urban only for the last week) I dont mind using a bit of petrol. when it was pouring straight on the floor from a hole in the filler tube though that was too much Last edited by stuart bowes; Apr 14th, 2021 at 23:15. |
