Default '57 P3 XC70 Converting headlights FROM Xenon TO halogen

Hey all,

Bit of an odd question this one.

My wife put my P3 XC70 into a pillar and smashed the utter **** out of the passenger side headlight, and I'm looking at £3-400 for a replacement.

I've noticed that non-Xenon clusters are significantly cheaper, and so was wondering if it's possible to swap out the Xenon clusters currently in the car, and replace them with non-Xenon (Halogen?) clusters instead? Is there anything that would prevent me from doing this/doing this easily?

Cheers,

Cam

A drop in the efficiency of the headlight system of the car which your wife is driving?

It would be a fair challenge.

Everything in these cars are computer controlled.

Halogen headlights operate in a different manner electrically to Xenon so you would almost certainly run into issues swapping them.

Would likely need a software change which I doubt volvo would provide.

Annoyingly, this is what I expected, thanks for the information.

Time to spunk £300 on a 2nd hand headlight unit just so I can get the car MOT'd and Sold!

I would assume that’s probably your best bet unfortunately. I should imagine a fault code would be registered and I would expect some issue with the loom as they use a high voltage ballist to start the light. You would also have self levelling headlights which will go with the nee ones.

It may be possible to do but I have a feeling you could end up down a bit of a rabbit hole and a modest amount of work.
