Default MY 2006 RTI MMM 2001 Sat Nav Workings?

Hi All,
A bit of an explanation needed so I can understand better the workings of the sat nav my car is fitted with. It's mainly what happens in the disc drive.
Insert disc, leave in place, set destination, start and go. The part number of the disc I have is 31470159 but what happens when I begin my journey? The reason I ask is the system has a roundabout local to me as a right turn, it shows a McDonald's branch which has been closed for a number of years. It shows my local pub, where the old disc doesn't, so I assume it is being read, although I don't know if the disc is spinning or if the laser needs a clean. How does the disc know about new build/change of road layout etc. All info. will be appreciated to allow a better understanding of how this system works.
Regards
Fred

If it’s an mmm drive, there is only a dvd which contains the mapping.
The nav constantly reads the maps from the disc, probably buffers a bit as well.

There is no other storage, so every journey you program is read from the disc.

The last discs for this version of the satnav are 2015 as far as I remember, so I would expect some road and junction changes by now.

Hi reggit
Thanks for your reply, so I assume the disc starts spinning & the drive reads the disc, when you open up the sat nav and if you've set a destination it will direct you to it by a route that was as when the disc was issued (I believe 2015 was the year). So does the system update at all or not or is this only when a new disc(s) is/are issued?

There’s no way to update it as the maps are on the disc and they’re no longer made for this model.
