Default M.o.T.

For some odd reason I woke up one day last week, thinking the M.o.T. on my V70 must be overdue/due.A look at the paperwork showed in had in fact run out, oops.A check on the DVLA site showed it had been subject to the 6mth lockdown so technically was still tested to January next year, phew! However a minor consideration of that meaning it was shortly after Xmas/new year but the more important consideration that two of my great grandkids are often passengers and I decided to get it tested-not that I thought anything seriously wrong with it-I'd recently replaced both rear brake calipers, pads and handbrake shoes and all 4 tyres as they were getting near the limit.Anyway earliest I could get it in was Wednesday last and it passed first time of asking.like its owner it's getting old and has a few "defects" but nothing majorly difficult or expensive to sort,so the old girl rolls on for yet another year

Interesting , so in the UK one doesn't get an email and text to inform when the test is due ?

Nope.

I've forgotten quite a few times. Fortunately realised before the old bill has.

You can get a reminder if you sign up for one here https://www.gov.uk/mot-reminder, my wife has it for her car, I tend to just remember roughly when they are due and then just check here https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history, but that doesn't mean I'm infallible, and even if I get sent a text message about something I'm capable of saying 'Oh, I must do that' then promptly forgetting for a month

You do if you sign up for such a service. Or if you use any of the numerous MOT/service tracking apps.

Our local garage is canny enough to post reminders to us.

Just an extra thought with Cookeh mentioning the numerous apps available, the .gov links in my earlier post are both free, beware of others on the web which may have a free trial or offer multiple vehicle checks but then start charging large amounts to your bank account, my wife did get caughjt out by one when she first tried to sign up for a reminder, it was only when they took a second monthly payment of nearly £30 that I asked What The #! and cancelled it.

I also get customers to use the .Gov reminder service , BUT I also ask them to enter the date into their phone calender to remind them one month & then two weeks before the due date .

Your vehicle =YOUR responsibility
