Hi Guys,
Having recently bought a 1999 C70 T5 which continously "hunts" on tickover, I visited the forum as a guest to try and find out what the problem was likely to be. Inevitably I ended up reading the many posts concerning the ETM issue and joined the Community. We have a friend who holds a senior position with Volvo and I will be contacting him tomorrow to book the car in. I will advise of the outcome. Mike |

Hi,
Welcome to the forums and enjoy your time here.. Welcome to the dark side too... ! Quote:
If you do have the ETM issue (it is inevitable, not a possibility) the clean and software update will "improve" things for a while and should be offered free. You will need a replacement ETM - 100% failure rate. The replacement is a re-conditioned one and it too will fail... This should be replaced FREE by a Volvo main dealer, but going rates are about £250 or so... Once you have paid the bill (if your canny argument doesn't get the job done free for you take dealer and Volvo UK to the county court for your money back... Now you can see why your friend will get such a warm welcome.. Des. . .

ETM Clean and Software Upgrade C70 T5
Just got the car back from Stratstone Volvo in Cardiff following the ETM clean and software update and the result is excellent. The tickover is now rock solid at about 750rpm, the drive is much smoother and it is certainly a lot quicker! The service from Stratstone was extremely professional from the moment the car was booked in. The lady on service reception knew all about the problem (she must have visited this site!). When they telephoned to advise that the car was ready, out of courtesy I asked whether there would be any charge, to which they replied that Volvo UK would pick up the entire cost. A good result.

Hi,
Good to hear you got good service, at least, and that Volvo UK footed the bill... You will need a new ETM in time though, without a doubt, so keep a watchful eye on things up to the 100k miles or so... Enjoy the improved ride for now though.. Des. . .
