Retro fit sat-nav
As a question, can you just buy a satnav unit and install it into a Volvo XC 90 that hasn’t got satnav installed?
Is it just a case of reprogramming VIDA? I suspect it’s more complicated but I wonder whether anyone else has done this? Install the pop-up satnav into the speaker slot, plugged it in and do you have satnav? |

Note it interfaces audio via the most bus which is fibre optic. The gps aerial ( certainly on earlier models) is in the roof at the rear I believe. But not sure here.
It is definitely not plug and play. Hope this helps... |

Install wiring loom. 2nd hand OK Install the motorised screen. 2nd hand OK Install the GPS antenna (front windscreen). 2nd hand OK Install the nav computer (under lefthand front seat). New only, no 2nd hand Install steering wheel controls. 2nd hand OK Get the remote control. 2nd hand OK The car must be reconfigured by VIDA to know a satnav is fitted. Full installation instructions exist as PDF from Volvo, google them Many people will say "it's not worth it" for the effort and price. But that is a very personal decision.

I have been looking in to the same thing and now have started looking at the aftermarket ones ( fixed screen not motorised ) and depending on the money you intend to spend some of these have decent spec. Also some of them can utilise front and rear cameras ( came across a camera that fits inside the lower part of the front Volvo badge)
Some of them use screen mirror for satnav and some have integrated with sd card so again it depends on your budget and also mostly use the aux in on your existing hifi. I would have put on a few links but I am still getting used to using MacBook but have a look on YouTube just search xc90 aftermarket satnav. my plan is to fit one of the widescreen ones with a rear monitor, front and rear cameras but I am still working out the rear monitor as the alarm sensor is mounted in the best position for the monitor typical. |
