Service engine system required 042

Hello I have recently purchased my fist volvo and need some help. 2006 volvo xc 90 Recently had my brakes changed as well as my oil and now I get the service engine system required message on dash with code 042. I also have a check engine light that came on with code p0442 evap system leak. I tried the gas cap with new one still check engine is back on and I have so idea what the other code 042 is please any suggestions

I suggest you also need to consider a code reader so you can get a better idea of where to start if the above does not help. You need a device (dice) and the software on a laptop, blus a bit of diagnostic knowledge.

Vida dice is probably the best, but there are cheaper diagnostic tools. There are lots of suggestions on diagnostic code readers in this forum.
