No, I shall be off to ask Mike at Frf tomorrow. They are the most helpful people.
The S40 group have given me part numbers for their headlight wiper arms, so I will find out if they are the same as for ours and report back. Shaun Last edited by 940volvoman; Mar 4th, 2020 at 21:20. Reason: Extra text |

Really needs to be a "practical" test with wiper arms from one of those models on one of ours.

Does this help Bob.
I've been trying to upload these images since yesterday but for some reason it wouldn't work.
These are the type of headlamp wiper arms and blades fitted to my 1992 940. I obtained some in better condition from a breaker yard and refurbished them but cannot remember which model I obtained them from. The plastic end pieces/inserts which accept the washer pipe and contain the jets are enclosed within the end of the wiper arm and simply clip in. The end pieces are handed and I obtained them from my dealer back in 2014. £8.50 each ex VAT. Left hand: VO9178733 Right hand: VO9190242.

No idea Shaun, you could try cross-referencing on either PFV or https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/ to see. If you have access to both types (even if parts are broken, if the main parts are the same you should get an idea) you could physically try it.

The Mk2b had a plastic surround with a slightly different silver/grey plastic backplate (the 2 aren't interchangeable) and the backplate also forms the upright slats of the grille in both cases. The whole grille assemblies are interchangeable but the Mk2a has bolts that come from the inside of the bonnet into the grille, the Mk2b has studs with nuts on the inside of the bonnet. As you might guess, they're a bit of a rust trap and the bolts on the Mk2a version often rust in. My custom grille is based on a (very rare!) good Mk2a grille but when i went to fit it, i discovered the "ears" that hold the captive nuts for the bolts were distorted when removed by the pervious owner. You can now guess the point of all this waffle - not everything is as it seems!

I finally just settled for a pair of cheap headlight wiper blades from the seller on ebay. The rivets across the centre which fit into the clips on the arms are too small, so I just changed the blades across to the old Genuine ones. Oh, and I used a thick black cable tie just to make sure.I could and should have just bought some replacement rubbers and replaced the originals.
Still, I'll know for next time, if i remember..... |
