Default Engine popping lack of power

My xc70 D5 has had new engine mounts and new silicon pipework all round. At idle with the filler cap off it pops I have tried blanking the pipes but it carries on popping. Also notice stationary it will only rev to about 3250 rpm take the oil filler cap off it will rev right into the red. Any ideas please.

On my v70 there is a big pipe that runs down the front of the engine behind the radiator. This had become disconnected & gave similar problems to yours. Reattaching it fixed it & the 'engine service required' light went out.

Thought I would ask (hope you don't mind) as its along the same lines, should there be a popping sound after engine mounts have been changed?

I have just had mine done (front and rear) and I still have a popping sound, quieter then before the mounts were done but still there when the oil filler cap is removed.

@spudd - This thread might help:

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=132443

@OWF - A slight popping sound & slight white smoke/mist when removing the engine oil cap is normal on a D5, but it shouldn't be particularly loud. Its more of a subtle popping sound, if that makes sense.

If you take the oil cap off & you need a pair of ear muffs, then there's a vacuum issue!
