XC60 2010 Tailgate Struts
Just looking around my newly acquired XC60 and noticed that one of the tailgate struts is powered whilst the other appears to be a straightforward gas strut. Is this normal? Seems to open and close fine but very gradually droops if left open for a long period.

I'm no longer with the Volvo brand but as no-one else has answered in the last 3 days.....
I had a 2010 XC6o and can confirm that yours is standard for that year. One powered strut, the other a gas strut. Some at the time posted on here of problems and the operation could be a bit jerky but I had mine nearly 5yrs without any issues. The 2014 facelift changed to two powered struts and to me seemed smoother but the original system worked fine for me. HTH. |

I think there was a strut update late 2014, water ingress had caused rusting and failure. My rh strut snapped, luckily I had tools with me and could remove it allowing the tailgate to close. Had both struts ( both powered) replaced with a 50% contribution from Volvo in 2018.
