Borrow or test a 740 MAF sensor
Hi there everyone,
I have fairly recently acquired a 1990 740 B200F which doesn't run very smoothly and smells very rich and almond-y. From reading other posts it seems like the aftermarket cheapo MAF sensor may be the problem but since it was new just before I got the car I'm not keen to spend another £50 on a Bosch replacement if it won't help. Would anyone be willing to swap a couple beers or something to kindly allow me to try your known-working sensor? I'm in Hampshire, UK. Obviously if my ECU is bad and ruins yours then I shall replace it for you. |

Does the car have an OBD and if so have you interrogated it?

Hey Captain, if you will find NOS MAF made by Bosch for 50£ I will order 10 of them.
China crap is useless Used ones will fail too, maybe. Your car with a B200F is with a code box at the engine bay. Did you read the fault codes? At first I would test a new lambda sond. If you try to be a cheap guy buy a cheap one and buy the right stuff later ( soon ;-) ) I think you "forgot" to post a lot of important things: Miles? Modified or not? Age of fuel? Filters changed? Both fuel pumps are running? Age of spark plugs? Brand of them? Brand of distributor cap and age? Brand of rotor and age? Brand of leads and age? With catalyst? If removed: why? Vacuum leaks? First question is does it run rough and smell rich from first cold start?
Where does the temperature gauge sit after 10 minutes or so? Why was the MAF changed before you got it and is the old one still available? Does it start easily from cold? Lots more questions but those will do to start!

If it's a UK 1990 B200F it will be LH2.4 with ODB1 diagnostics 'flashing' code box in the usual place on the side of the strength strut between the n/s suspension trumpet and the firewall. Bob
