Volvo V70 2009 - DTC Code ECM-P160868
Hi all,
We had a problem with our '59 plate V70 R-Design yesterday morning, it would turn over but not fire up. We called our breakdown service and they couldn't find the problem, so towed it to a local garage. We have also noticed that we have an intermittent problem when the key is inserted into the slot: the steering lock releases but re-engages almost immediately again, so preventing starting the car. We have been having to put the key in and out until the steering lock stays off when the key is in the slot before we can start the car. We have put new batteries in the key and also tried both of the keys we have and the same thing happens with both. The garage checked the car this morning and found the following fault codes: CEM - B10D794 CEM - B10EA14 CEM- B110877 DIM - U042268 ECM - P160868 I have found what the top codes are, CEM - B10D794 - seems to be a problem reading the key ID (this might be the reason the steering lock keeps re-engaging?) CEM - B10EA14 - seems to be something with the diesel engine's additional heater. CEM- B110877 - Driver door central locking motor problem (though we have had no problems with the door locking or unlocking - so not sure what the problem is there) DIM - U042268 - Invalid data received from Central Electronics Module. Algorithm based failures - don't know what this means. but can't find what the last one is: ECM - P160868. Does anyone know what this one is please? As soon as the garage wiped all the codes this morning, the car has started absolutely fine, all day today, and the steering lock problem has not returned - yet. We are concerned that if the faults return, we are going to have the same two problems again, while we were lucky and still at home when the car wouldn't start, it might not be so convenient next time it happens. Does anyone have any ideas on what might have caused the faults and whether they will return, we are concerned that we might have to have a new key or the keyhole slot thing changed (It had been changed three years ago, just after we bought the car, as the steering lock wouldn't disengage at all.) It all seems a bit too similar to 3 years ago! Thanks Caroline |

I assume that the garage uses a VIDA/DiCE to cancel the fault reports. If you kept an old laptop in your car with a DiCE lead and loaded with VIDA, you could cancel the faults yourself in an emergency and be able to drive the car. I also have a 12V adaptor charger to run the laptop in the car so that its battery doesn't go flat if not used for a long time.

That's an idea, I'll have a think about that. At least in an emergency, I could get going again.
Thanks |
