No drive
HELP PLEASE
V70R AWD Geartronic I just pulled away for the lights BIG BANG and no drive in D or R And in park it runs backwards (it was stopped on a wee hill) ATM waiting for the AA to recover it home Any ideas am I in deep poop with a new gearbox needed? JUST got the car home She has just had two now front driveshafts fitted last week and the AA man said IF one of them is faulty there will be NO DRIVE to any of the wheels IS that correct? Also, with the engine running when you engage park you can hear the parking pawl bouncing and making a rattling sound as it tries to engage BUT with the engine off the parking pawl does not engage though I guess the gearbox need to be pressurised to engage the parking pawl Is that correct? BLUDDY AA Man would not put it in the drive said he was frightened it would run away So it is going to be fun NOT!!! getting it in the drive tomorrow I will need a helicopter or five big strong men :-( thanks

Update
Well how to please your neighbours NOT!!!
Jacked up the car (in the street in front of my house {quite a wide street} ) and put her on four axle stands with all wheels off of the ground. I got an old broom handle, started the engine and used the power seat and the broom handle to set the throttle at 2500 RPM Popped her in Reverse and WOW two wheels were turning one back and one front With a wee bit of assistance all four were rotating, so I popped her in Drive and same thing with the wheels going the other way of course. SO it looks like the angle drive is functioning at a low level of torque and at a wild guess it would seem likely that the coupling sleeve have given up the ghost. I was giving the car some serious welly and in advanced mode :-( CONFUSED is ME I thought with a non functioning angle drive with a stripped coupling sleeve I would still have front wheel drive. NEXT PROBLEM is to get her into the drive backwards and do a very very very (with inches to spare) (tis fun with the car running, this is going to be a nightmare pushing her) tight turn into the back of my house. This area is slabbed and is where I work on my cars as the drive is too soft, the garage is too small and has too much rubbish in there including my Ducati Mobike

BUT IT was me who replaced all the new front end bits including the two new driveshafts
Do i just beat myself up with a 2lb hammer??? Hand rotating the wheels and even with them turning with the car jacked up shows/showed no sign of any roughness, so I am having difficulties thinking something in the new driveshafts has broken or has become detached. Tis possible that the LHS one has slid out of the differential (funnier things have happened I am sure) but the RHS one is held in by a big bearing in a housing so that shaft has to be fully in before you can put the bearing clamp on. The drive shafts slid in easily, the bugger job was getting the new bottom wishbone arm low enough to get the new ball joint in through the hole in the arm I can't see how it can be oil drag that will rotate all four wheels smoothly against the friction from the discs and pads BUT with no power to drive the car I AM STILL seriously confused as to why I don't have front wheel drive. BUT then my tests does show that I have four wheel drive with all four wheels rotating smoothly and synchronously BUT WITH NO real driving power. My understating is that the Front Drive shafts connect directly to the differential and then there is an extra splined hollow output drive shaft (that the RH drive shaft passes through) from the differential via a toffee coupling to the transfer angle box SO that being the case I would expect to have front wheel drive as a minimum whereas I have no effective drive at all.

Probably !!! best have a very close look at them and their joints , Maybe a joint has broken in the boot . Make sure they are firmly attached in the gearbox ...

Sorted
The brand new N/S drive shaft had popped out of the differential the end was not holding the circlip any more and OFF it went
Totally different end style to the ones I took off. I will see about getting a refund. The O/S one is fine as it is held in by the support bearing and can't slip out. But I will again replace both again, probably by GENUINE Volvo one's from the local stealer and make sure they are totally identical to the ones that were on the car.

BAD and GOOD
FAKE (from Swedish car parts) and GENUINE VOLVO
First four are Fake (as fitted to car - and slipped out of Differential/Gearbox Last two are Genuine Notice how the spring circlip is only held on by a {NON Functioning} mushroom head whereas the Genuine VOLVO drive shaft has the spring circlip in a machined groove
