Default VVT Gear - Leaky "O" Ring Fix

Hi - came across this on Volvo Forums. It is a long thread but the bit on page 5 by "migbro" is pretty interesting. It provides some detailed specs on the o-ring in the vvt gear and what size he recommends it be replaced with. He also suggests an SAE socket size that will fit the screws on the VVT to assist with dissassembly. I'd still be tempted to get a new VVT but if the $'s are tight...this might do the trick.

If you can take your original O ring to a bearing shop
yes, ask for a Viton O ring about 75 Shore.
These come in different colours
also known as FKM
or
seal shop.

Now if someone has the solenoid O ring size?

Viton is dearer but you're not buying a 1,000,000,000.

Haven't used nitrile buna for 20yrs not even on the garden hosepipe
mainly epdm but that's another story

Hi, is it safe to just replace the "O"ring. Can I do it myself?
