Your full beam will be a standard h7 halogen bulb, the box you speak of is the ballast that powers the HID dipped bulb, and can be dangerous due to the many thousands of volts it contains, but disconnecting the battery and leaving it overnight before commencing work will be fine.

The hid ballast is secured with a clamp of sorts, unclip it from the bracket and it can be pulled out of the way, you'll need to unplug the connector first, also take care not to dislodge anything within the light, then you will find 3x star drive screws which hold the remaining bracket on, once thats off it's just a regular bulb change.

You will not get a high tesion spark(30000 v) if you do not turn on your light.

i think you'll find there is also a screw to undo before you can undo the clamp and as acccess is at best tight.......

In the past i've removed the whole headlight. The bumper doesn't need to come off but may need loosening. You can then check the whole headlight and change all the bulbs easily (except the HID). I also lubricate the wiper motors before putting it all back in.
