MAF query
Hi everyone,
My MAF has ceased to be. It is a miffed MAF. Symptoms were a hunting idle from about 1200 to 2000 rpm. It would stay at 2000 for quite a while then drop down to 1200 before gunning back up. Although this was at idle, while the car was driving on the road I could feel the same surges at low rev speeds. Looked for air leaks & fixed some & a split pipe - no change. Disconnected the MAF & it would not run. Borrowed a MAF & idle/running is normal again. Bought some proper MAF cleaner, cleaned my MAF & tried again - still the same. Now I am wondering whether to get one off ebay -taking a chance on 20 - 30 year old electronics or a "new" one (approx £60). I have no idea what brand these "new" ones are or how well they perform compared to the originals. Past reading of other aftermarket parts suggests they may not be up to much. Does anyone here have any experience of these or know where to get a good one? Does anyone here have a 0280 212 016 MAF they know works & would sell? Tim |

I have tried a lot of teh cheaper MAF's and perhaps 25% of them work but for how long?
Best bet is a used one (I might have one about) or a genuine Bosch one at the £300 mark |

Or, I got mine from a Volvo dealer FRF Swansea with a forum discount. £152.84 including delivery by Interlink two years ago.
It does take time to come to the UK from Volvo Classic Parts in Sweden. |

I got a second hand one as a spare for a 940, and when checking the part numbers, it also seems to be compatible with a 240.

Thanks for the replies.
Dai, I thought that may be the case, sounds more of a gamble to get a "new" one of unknown provenance rather than a known working old one. Someone on the 7/940 page is breaking a 940 & has one - I think I'm going with that one. Tim |
