I was told it wasn't a simple on off signal

There must be some communications between the siren and the rest of the car as mine tells me it needs a service. I assumed it was CAN or something.
Or is there a simple on/off signal also, that I can tap into?

If you have Vida in the diagnostic section you can find what signals are on each connector. It's not too detailed, ie it wil just say +Battery or signal type, no specifics of the code used but if you look up the siren module connector you wil see if there is a simple on/off.
