How fast is an F reg 240GLT
Today while driving my auto 240GLT on a private road I noticed that I was doing 9.5mph while revs were at only 3krpm. I decided to see what it could achieve. I pushed up to 12mph while the rev counter was still only showing 5krpm which leads me to believe that there was still a bit more I could have achieved. But seeing that the old girl is now up to 160k miles I eased off. I have had the car now for 9 years but always thought that the max on these cars was about 100mph. So how fast are they really? Also the performance including things like throttle response seems to be getting better the older it becomes or is it just my imagination?

Eh, spelling mistake or... 9.5 mph at 3000 rpm seems very odd to me, on an automatic...

No, spelling was deliberate ;-) I'm not admitting to anything :-)

My 240 also seems to be improving with age (117000)on the clock now.
Mine is a 2.3 4 speed manual with a cisak fitted, but I've never had it more than 90 when there seemed to be plenty of go left in it. |

Cisak -make of carburettor.
My brother in law had an old 240 - must have been late 70s vintage. He could get the needle past the 100 mark, whatever that was in reality. He could also do about 40 backwards, terrifyingly. |
