Tier 1 and upwards tend to specify helicoils for fixings sub 1/4” or 6mm even for non flight system. Secondary locking is very specific with the twists and forms. I would go as far as to say I don’t believe there are any flight or structural components that rely on bonding exclusively. I also don’t believe the regulators would sanction it or that data would exist for fatigue life etc.
In the abscence or a platform and sub system I would have to say you are incorrect on this. That’s not to say it isn’t possible, it’s simply not sanctioned. It’s like the myth that the Dreamliner has composite wings bonded. No it does not, there are sections that are bonded but not structural or flight safety dependant. |

Shame its 6 month outside of warranty lol or is " Volvo improve this kind of thing" a typo and should be "Volvo approve this type of thing..." To me its more hassle to take the car to the dealer than to keep putting small amounts of impact adhesive under the raised lip... If the impact adhesive don't work I'll try Stikaflex - used to fasten the arches to the Escorts with that, and they NEVER moved...EVER. Just need to use a flexible adhesive I think, so no superglue/araldite variants Cheers Bob |

Try tigerseal, it is removable if you realy need to but you will not want to. Remains flexible and really sticks things together once cured.
Sprang a panel joint on the caravan, tigerseal and clamped it until set, not had a problem in 3 years despite the miles it's traveled. Paul. |

Surely the idea of bonding/gluing is better than having holes drilled/punched through panels with the attendant possibility of water ingress, corrosion or depending on the materials used electrolysis?
In principle the idea of bonding seems to be very sensible to me. (Didn't loads of old style composite aircraft - i.e. wooden ones - rely on glue to hold them together? For example the Mosquito? Jodells? Robins?) |

Having owned a car with a row of holes punched along the side I have to agree that bonding is the way to go. However when one of the letters from the Volvo name on the tailgate became unbonded, I used some double sided carpet tape to reapply an adhesive surface to the back of it and it's back in its place. No complaints.
