Question Volvo diesel xc 90 2004 : engine fault ans stops

My volvo stops suddenly if I try to move after being on red traffic light. It shows engine fault message. I can start again no problem. Never stops when driving it only happens if keep it still for a while then start to move. This doesn’t happen every time.

What is the best way to diagnose this ? I would like to get some idea before talk to the garage.

Do you hear the engine idle 'cough' a little, with a slight change in sound while waiting at the lights?
If so it will be the fuel pressure control valve on the right of the high-pressure fuel pump.
Like this part: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOSCH-092...0AAOSwkzhZ2nOm

- but check it matches your part number!

I had this on my 163 D5 - took ages to track down !
