Stuck cv axle to hub ?
Hi
Any tips on removing a stuck cv joint splined axle from the hub - trying to change the abs ring but can’t get the cv joint from the hub ? It doesn’t look rusty with hub nut out, but it won’t knock out ? Thanks |

Use a 3 leg puller & allow that to push the joint out . I have in the past also used a ratchet strap around the legs to stop them slipping off when winding up the pressure & eventually te joint will ease out .
I would also advise cleaning both the CV & hub splines with a hacksaw blade & dremel tool to remove anything that will make refitting a struggle , witha thin smear of moly or better still ceramic grease on the splines Hope it helps

Hard luck! The shaft should just slide out but as you have found it can get stuck - sometimes so badly that it CANNOT be removed.

Just had this problem with my xc90 , short story is the garage I finally took it to, had to sacrifice the wheel bearings and burn them off ! He spent some time on the first ring ( adding to cost ) so I told him to spend just 20 minutes on second one then go for the burner , he'd done a lot of Volvo abs rings in the past , but never seen one like mine , if you do a YouTube search you'll see some horror stories , best of luck

Fastest way, used axle and hub. I think some had red loctite on them, good luck removing it

Thanks everyone, I’ve done a v70 before and it just pushed out so I’m fearing the worst with this one. Will take it into a local garage after the weekend and hope he gets lucky with it.
If it doesn’t come out I will go the used route, would I be able to knock the old CV joint off with the hub instead of replacing the drive shaft ? |
