Default ECM-5310 XC90 2004 D5 AWD Auto

I have the above fault code which is isolated to the Communication with TCM. The car does not throw up any other TCM fault.

When trying to diagnose, I did notice that if putting the vehicle in 'Manual' i could change between 2 and 4 before the dreaded '-' come up on the digital gear display on the dash.

While leaving the car in 'Manual' then turning the vehicle off and turning the ignition back on (to see the response) the digital dial presented the following sequence.

1. D 0.5s
2. 4 0.5s
3. 2 0.3s
4. 1 steady

Has anyone experience this response and fixed? Is it normal, if not, please what was your fix?

Secondly, someone with a fully functional XC90 2004/05 D5 AWD would you kindly try this with your vehicle to see how it reacts? Running car, select manual #1, turn off car, turn on ignition, observe the digital gear display and kindly post your result.

The reaction suggests that it does not initially know the gear that it is in, but then ends up at the right indication. Does this rule out the Position Sensor (PNP switch). Maybe this is a normal on ignition on. Hoping someone with a functional XC90 can confirm for me!
