Few issues with my xc90
Hi all, new to the forum and volvo's in general. Have my 2009 xc90 2.4 diesel auto a few months now and couple of issues are starting to come up.
1st issue: The drivers side front door speaker and tweeter don't work most of the time. If i move the 10 amp fuse on slot number 9 for Infotainment, RTI the speaker and the tweeter will start working properly again for some time and eventually will stop working. When the drivers door speaker stops working then at same time the volume will go down lower on all the other speakers. Have replaced the fuse and still happens. 2nd issue is under the engine cover just by the oil filler cap. Just looking for the name of the part that seems to be broken and have an oil leak in that area as well. Will attach a picture of the part. 3rd: There is a knocking sound from the front somewhere when suddenly braking at low speed to a complete stop ( doesn't happen always, but some days it could happen every time i brake. Sounds like metal hitting metal) checked the suspension and nothing seems to be broke and all bushings look OK. Also when driving and then braking to slow down it will pull to the left. Have checked the front left caliper and its not sticking. Lastly the fuel consumption seems to be very high on it. At the moment I'm getting roughly average of 11L / 100km according to the display on the dash. That's a mix of town driving and country roads. Any help or info is greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Hi,
No 1 is the swirl arm and the oil leak will be from the end of the swirl flaps that that arm is supposed to move. Looking at it I would strongly suspect that the swirl flaps are now well and truly jammed but in any case would need removing to sort the oil leak. Search Swirl flaps on here for more info. No 2. The pulling to one side when braking , if you have explored the obvious such as tyre pressures and brake binding, I think it will in all probability be the bushes in the lower control arm. If changing the control arm, do both at the same time, economically it makes more sense.

No 1. If moving the fuse fixes the problem, then you have a bad contact in that area.
No 2. Swirl arm/flap system as already suggested No 3. Control arm bushes seem suspect, but you have to pry/load/unload all the bushings to look for movement No 4. The swirl flap being stuck might explain this partly but there could be lots of other causes. Check the DTCs (fault codes). Get a Volvo-savvy mechanic to do it with proper equipment, not a universal OBDII reader. Unless an issue is obviously mechanical, reading the DTCs is always the first step.

No 3 sounds exactly like what I had which was the engine front torque mount under the engine being worn out, meaning metal was banging on metal, instead of rubber bushes.
Very easy to replace, solved the issue immediately
