Default V70 TDI Sluggish Slow MAF Timing

Hello, I've just aquired a 99 v70 tdi and it is only really starting to pull after 2500rpm its really sluggish from a stand still and sometimes smokes on startup. Also it might just be me but it also seems to start with quite a jolt from then engine.

It's just had its timing belt done ive no idea who did it mind you.

What do we think?

Many Thanks

hi
welcome to the forum. first thing check all the vac pipes and electrical connectors, secondly have the codes read either by volvo or an indi, has the pump timeing belt been done and has this been set up properly, also has the timeing belt been done properly, if its out slightly it will make a difference. the car manegement system is msa 15.8 so it will have to be hooked up for the dtcs to be read. hope that helps and i no a lot of questions lol. oh forgot to say check your top engine mount for the jolt problem

Hi,

I bought a v70 tdi...drove it home 60 miles and it smoked all the way !!!
1st thing i did was give it a good service ..oil....a good semi synthetic, oil filter, fuel filter, a little tip buy some injector cleaner and put it straight into the fuel filter before fitting the new one, this way it dosent get diluted by putting it into the fuel tank.
2nd do a search on EGR blanking, I,ve had 3 Tdi volvos all of which i,ve blanked off the EGR valve and used for towing.
3rd take it for a good thrash, dont be scared to give it some as slow round town driving just cloggs it up.
The above v70 i bought ran clean after i did these things
Hope this helps

I've just experienced this and, in my case, it was a failing MAF sensor. The problem was I had the codes read by a dealer (CEL light was on permanently after being intermittent for a long time) so I told them to change the MAF there and then as, otherwise, I'd have had to pay them again to clear the code. So I paid the full price for the MAF (£200 plus labour). Is the £60 one new? If so, it's a bargain but you should only use Bosch IMO. The difference was DRAMATIC in my case - like a new car. Of course, it could be the pump timing but it would tend to smoke all the time, in that case. They all smoke a little when accelerating. Try the MAF sensor. Regards.
