Just looking at the responses above, my issue is not related to having the parking brake on or not - the problem is within the gearbox. The car jumps forward violently when drive is engaged - if the footbrake is held or the parking brake is on it just makes a loud bang. I suspect it is better to have no brake on at all as at least it allows the force to dissipate.
I'm interested to hear from other owners who've had the same issue and how it was sorted. |

I think the first port of call is to take it to an inpendant volvo specialist as a main dealer will just want to fit a new gearbox

I agree with Cookci. My dealer also wouldn't entertain an ATF change (despite excellent information from here to the contrary).
3 month after the adaptation reset, mine has started doing it again at random (but always when hot). There's no way I'm paying for a replacement autobox when it has only done 30k miles! So it will have to be an Indi to do the ATF flush or do it myself... I feel your pain...

Did this sort the issue out?
How much did it cost in the end if you don't mind me asking? Mine's still intermittently playing up (along with occasional harsh downshifts from 4th to 3rd).

Peter Lee, any update?
I have same problem, year ago it all started, harsh selection of D and harsh downshifts 4th to 3rd. Oli was changed and also new adaption was carried out. For a while, it was OK, but now it is not OK, same fault. |

I've got a sneaking suspicion that new fluid and adaptions reset throughout the temperature range might have fixed it but to be honest I'm just pleased it's working.
