Default A hello and question - XC70 D5 low rpm warbling noise.

Hello to the forum.

I'm new to here and new to Volvo's having been a staunch supporter of Japanese vehicles.

I've bought a 2015 XC70 D5 AWD Geartronic specifically to lug our caravan and dog around. Mightily pleased with it I am too.

However it has on its first journey developed a low rpm 1400-1500 warbling noise when in D under load. Noise doesn't change if A/C is off or on. It cannot be replicated in Neutral or in sport mode.

Has anyone had similar. If so what was it? Is there a component on the auto that may whistle/warble.

My own thought is the low pressure turbo but what I know about turbo's can be written on a stamp.

It is under warranty and will go back for appraisal to the Volvo main dealer next week but it would be nice to be armed with a little knowledge.

Cheers

Dave

If the warranty is Volvo's Selekt warranty, you'll have no worries. They administer the second hand warranty as if it were the original Volvo warranty and the car gets fixed regardless of cost. I was truly impressed by the cover that Volvo give under this warranty.

Thanks for the reply Tatsfield.

Good to hear the warranty is top notch.

I've had a gander for anything obvious, no pipes split or loose connections. No obvious signs of gases or fluids escaping.

From stone cold the noise when is not there. The moment the temp gauge hits 1/4 the noise appears. In D it is around 1400rpm. In S mode it appears around 2500rpm. When heavily laden ie towing, it is more apparent.

Anyway, of to dealers later.

Cheers

Dave
