1.6 Drive 2010 Fuel consumption glitch
Hi everybody,
Background: I am relatively new to the V50 world- I got mine about 2 months ago. Bought it in Latvia- imported from Belgium. At the moment has done about 211k KM. Right after the purchase I noticed that the drive start-stop function didn't work. Changed the timing belt, oil and filters right upon the purchase. Ran diagnostics and it had some minor faults which could be cleared away, except one- 2A10 DPF temperature sensor which, at the time couldn't be cleared. Took a closer look at that and noticed that it could be the wiring instead of the actual sensor, which was corrected and afterwards the fault could be cleared. After this the start-stop function seemed to work fine. My daily route is 100% urban. Issue: I noticed that now and then (I cannot find a clear pattern when this appears and when it goes away) my real-time fuel consumption more than doubles- e.g driving steady 60km/h should show about 3l/100km but it shows about 7l/100km and when accelerating it goes up 30+liters for a brief moment. Even when stationary the meter sometimes starts to go up. When this issue appears the start-stop function does not work! As well as the engine at some points does not seem to react to the gas pedal as it usually does. No messages appear on the dashboard! The average consumption shows about 5.5-5.6l/100km, but the actual is about 6.5l/100km which seems to be a bit steep even for urban driving. I haven't ran diagnostics so I don't actually know if 2A10 is back. My question is if anyone has experienced something similar and how did you resolve it? Could this have something to do with the DPF filter or the previously mentioned sensor? Thank you! |

Hi,
Consumption is radically increased when the car is regenerating the DFP. Also, you might experience a slower, mire sluggish throttle response during this time. How often does this happen? Does it disappear after a while if you keep driving?? |

Hi!
I'd say that this happens about once in three days and yes it does go away after a while. Might this be a symptom of a clogged DPF? Since I drive only around the city, I am in the risk group, as far as I understand. Is there anything I should do in this matter? Thanks! |

Car is trying to regenerate the dpf but with short journeys, may not succeed. Try a 30 min+ fast drive on dual carriageway roads, with a full fuel tank and hot engine..
