Default Speedo not working and abs/ebd lights on fixed

This problem is the abs pump computer located on side of the pump. Takes approx 10 mins

Required tools T20 torx socket, 1/4 inch ratchet, extension bars, 13mm socket, 10mm socket, flat screw driver.
  • Remove battery neg lead 10mm
Use flat screw driver to release multi plug locking arm on abs pump wiring
    Remove plug
Use 13mm socket to remove PAS pipe bracket and coolant pipe bracket
Use 13mm socket to undo the ABS pump locating bolts
Lift ABS pump up gently leaving all pipes connected, needs to be about as high as the pulley
    Remove lower multi plug
Remove all 6 T20 screws on pump ecu
    Pull ecu from pump

Refit is exact opposite of removal.
    Time taken 20 mins.
Part cost £10 from scrap yard.
Part number Bosch 0-273-004-224 Volvo 966306.
    Interchangable across years.
Advantage of this method is no need to bleed brakes

Just as a matter of interest I had similar symptoms, the speedo stopped working and the ABS light was on.

In my case it was one of the ABS sensors on the wheel hub.

Uhh honestly I would start with a less complicated and more common problem - ABS sensor fault.

Sorry should have made it a bit clearer, the car had no communication with the ABS module via Vida, so the car was tricking itself into not being fitted, being as the speedo is driven through the abs sensors and the sensors therefore had no power due to the pump control unit not working
