Default Frayed Drivers seat belt. Bad enough for MOT failure?

As per title, is this fraying bad enough for an MOT failure? If yes then I am going to replace the belt only and replace it with a newer one I have from my spares car and make a guide about it.

All opinions welcome

id try it after running a lighter over the "fuzz" , just enough to get it to disapear ,not melt the belt tho.

I don't care about repair as I have a 2008 belt from my scrap car that I have ready to use. I was just wondering if it is bad enough for me to replace it. I also took a rear seat seatbelt apart to see if it is the same and they are identical, except that the rear one is about 37cm longer than the front one.

Mine's probably about the same as yours. It passed the last MoT, but the tester did mention it, and suggested the lighter trick, same as andy_d.

Yep, should do the trick. TBH, it's a bit of a joke when there's still 90% plus of the webbing intact, will it actually matter? Probably more of a concern in the US, where it might have to stop a 25 stone yank....!

Damn too late to suggest the lighter trick. Do you really need to change it

Well, I have two spare ones from drivers and passengers seats so I can use one of them. That is all really. I did try the lighter a bit and it helped so that is a good point for everyone to know.

I think I am correct when I say the pass/fail criteria on seat belts for the MoT test (class IV) recently got slightly re-worded in favour of the vehicle presenter. Unless I am mistaken 'reasons for rejection' (fail) include:-
A seat belt; a. with a cut which has significantly weakened the webbing b. damaged sufficient to obstruct correct operation of the belt or which has significantly weakened the webbing c. stitching badly frayed, not secure or incomplete d. which has obviously been repaired.
...amongst other things. So a degree of the testers discretion comes into play. Maybe if you dropped in to your test station and asked for quick opinion in advance of the test but make sure you are talking to a Nominated Tester, preferably the one that might do the test as there can be differing interpretations and judgments.

Or run a flame near it and make the edges nice again!
