Default C70 Power Steering Pump Leak

Coming home earlier today,my steering suddenly started making a whining noise.Pulled up at home & opened the bonnet, there's power steering fluid across the front of the engine,it seems to be coming out of the hole above where the pipe from the reservoir goes in.Is this going to mean a replacement pump,or is it repairable?

Hi

Can you upload a photo of the fluid coming out? I don't understand where it is coming out.
Is it coming out fast?
What year C70?

When the engine is running, if you open the reservoir cap, is the fluid frothy? How is the fluid level? Do you have the right fluid to top up?
Does it make the noise only under load (eg turning the wheels when stationary), or all the time?

Steve

Hi Steve,
it's coming out of the hole inbetween the metal pipe & the rubber hose in the picture. It only comes out when the engine is running, not pouring out but enough to get some on the ground underneath the car.I haven't looked in the reservoir with the engine running yet, been a bit busy this afternoon but the fluid level was quite low.
The car is a '98,it started making the noise while I was driving along in a straight line.I've got another car to use,so no hurry to sort it at the moment, just trying to get an idea of what needs doing. Cheers,Tim.

Default pump

You had any joy with this?
Just looked at my 99 can see where you mean cant find any x-sections of the pump and the kits just seem to consist of lots of o rings suspect its like the little drain hole that used to under the water pump an escape route from a failed internal seal.

Turns out that it the pressure pipe had come a bit loose. There was so much fluid everywhere when it happened that I didn't notice the pipe was slightly undone.I've done it back up,& it doesn't seem to be leaking with the engine running, but I didn't have any fluid to top up with so haven't driven it anywhere.I've ordered a new O ring & fluid,I'll be trying to sort it out at the weekend. There is another thread going about how tight to do the nut up when replacing the O ring, that's going to be my next challenge.
