Centre speaker issue
Any help greatly received. This morning I got into my 56 plate v70 and could smell electrical burning but couldn't work out where it was comin from so wasn't overly concerned. This evening I have driven to work and the smell was back but stronger, I could also hear like an engine sound coming from the centre speaker. I got to work turned off the ignition and the centre speaker area continued to make a buzzing humming noise. I didn't want to leave the car as was worried it would have an electrical fire. I pulled the fuse for the audio system and the buzzing went away straight away so it obviously either a problem with the speaker or the head unit itself. Is there anything in particular I need to look for or any common problems like this. I have done a search but can't find anything similar. I think the head unit is the hu850. Thanks in advance

The centre speaker is run directly from the head unit while the rest go via the amp. That would tend to suggest the head unit is on its way out.

I've read of plenty of issues with the HU-803. But first, I'd have a look under the passenger seat where the amplifier is located. It is well prone to water ingress and failure. Although this amp only powers the doors and rear speakers while the center speaker is powered directly from the radio unit, I'd still check the amp. Maybe it's the amp that blew and it affects the radio function. Both the amp and the radio can be easily sourced off Ebay and are plug and play with the mention the car battery must be disconnected any moment an electrical radio/amp plug is disconnected.

Just a quick update I have hopefully solved this. I have managed to get the head unit out , behind was what I believe was the remains of a parrot kit that the previous owner must have had installed. I found a black box of tricks that had obvious signs of melting and smelt exactly what I had smelt past couple of days. I have taking the parrot wiring loom out and put it back to the factory wiring. So far so good .... from looking at the box I think I have been lucky in catching it before the box completely melted.. thanks for your suggestions though.
