Unhappy headlamp removal 2006 XC70

Can anyone tell me if it is easy to remove the headlamp on a 2006 xc70? Need to change the left hand side dip beam lamp but unable to reach it, ECU etc in the way. Handbook only shows to release a clip on top but there isn't one ! two bolts on slam panel hold lamp in but does bumper need removing ?

Thanks, Richard.

To remove the headlamp on 2006/2007 V/XC70, you will have to remove the bumper. If you have xenon dips, then you may have to do this, see recent Tiredgeek posts on this. But if you have ordinary halogen bulbs, you should be able to change bulb without removing ECU/air filter top. I find it OK to change my conventional LH side bulb just by removing ECU push on cover, then remove bulb clip in the lamp, remove bulb, replace bulb, clip in position and replace connector. Takes me about 15 mins to remove connector, clip and bulb anf replace with new. Has to be done by feel and sight through front of headlamp but it can be done.

if you have the time keep trying without removing anything as once you cracked its easy, I can do both sides with everything in place in about 10 mins on my s60. My v70 on the other hand is pain in the arse as its older and the layout is different and I need to remove the air box ect

Thanks chaps, I'll give it another go. Of course the lamp I need to replace is the only one I can't get to, all others are accessible .

Would help if handbook actually related to the correct procedure!

Regards,
Richard

Thumbs up headlamp removal

Well I managed to change the lamp tonight, and yes it was a pain in the arse to do. Air box did not just lift off but needed some force to release, with removing 2 ducts and lifting the air box made just enough room to do the job, however working upside down using a mirror is not the easiest job to do. And at £11 a lamp from dealers for H7 you need to be very careful handling them! At least they are marked long life, I hope so !
Give me the 240 any time for this sort of "easy job"

Regards, Richard.

Its much easier to remove the ECU and Air Box than the front bumper cover, it also gives you a chance to remove all the dead flies and leaves from the air box, as Main Dealers seem to overlook this when servicing. Dont forget to disconnect the battery negative terminal and wait 10 minutes before removing the ECU.

This is very true, bout' the dead flies. No one except us owners really bothers about giving a car the proper TLC.

Could anyone elaborate on why waiting 10mins before ECU-unplugging is necessary? I recently unplugged mine, twice, without waiting 10 mins..
Oh dear.

If the air box needs removed, just depress with an extension on each of the 3 retaining clips, like in this video at 0:40 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gyp0kbmkobQ

I have these bulbs made in Germany (for real) for the past three years
