Good morning all, I've tried to search for similar topic as I'm sure there might be more than one, but failed miserably, so apologies in advance.
I have a 4wd xc70, 67k miles. I love it, only problem is a "hard" D engage, both when selecting from parked or after reverse. Problem is...not all the time. On cold it's ok, and after a 3+ hours journey too. On my normal 30 mins drive when moving in car parks it jerks. Is it something known? Could it be a software bug or the need for oil flush? Not sure if heading to the local Volvo dealer or try and find some specialist (not aware of any in Suffolk). Any help appreciated. Thanks |

I had the same issue on my XC70 D5 2015 with 33k. The main dealer did various tests and then replaced the entire transmission with a replacement unit?! Seems OK now, but concerned of a failure at a ridiculously low mileage.

as a follow up: I'm glad to report i took the car to the dealer, there was a bulletin for a TC software update, done, and now all good. I've been advised I might have few hard shifts for up to 2 weeks, but nothing in 2 days. Well chuffed! (ah and oil was done at previous service)

Sometimes a "back yard adaption" is sufficient to cure these hard engagements of D and/or R position. With the engine idling, just get the tranny in and out of D ten to thirty times in a row. A few seconds in, a few seconds out. If you run out of back yard, mix in some R selections in between.
Hard engagement of D and/or R from N frequently cures itself by this procedure. If not, it didn't cost you much to try before visiting the garage. |
