Default XC90 Drive shaft

Hi All, After some advice please. My 2.5T XC90 failed MOT on wishbone, ABS light on and hand brake not efficient. I replaced the wishbone and moved on to the ABS ring but could not undo the drive shaft bolt, so much so that it has snapped and broke leaving about an inch inside. The question I have is Will I be able to get this out or am I best getting a new drive shaft or should I say second hand one? Secondly I have to do the other side yet so any advice on how to get the shaft out if its stuck? I envisage getting the one i have done out will be difficult. Regards Eric

Mine is stuck and I dread the thought of doing it, probably will do bearings at the same time and will use an angle grinder to cut the old bearing off....

Wow that looks way too brutal to me, why is he bashing the shaft into the diff like that?? Surely he needs to get a puller behind the flange and press against the shaft, that way there is no force on the cv joints or the diff.

Smacking stuff with a sledge hammer is ok on the building site, not on a rear axle IMHO

He has spaced the bearing off the hub so when hes hitting it all he is doing is knocking on the shaft,

Rears will come out with driveshaft in bearing, fronts won't as you carn't get to bolts holding bearing in

I guess that does help, but I don't believe for a moment there is no shock loading being transmitted to the shaft, joints and diff. Why wouldn't you use a puller?? plus a bit of heat maybe and some gentle sideways knocking on the flange.

I would be more than a little upset if someone did that to my motor.

Volvo dealers have a hydraulic puller that fits onto hub,

Sometimes it works other times it doesn't

Why wouldn't you use a puller??
After he removed the whole shaft they put in a 2000 ton press, and it still didn't come out!
