Default Compressor issues

Hi all,

Bloody hot innit. Last year I had an issue with the AC Compressor which I have now changed for a good second hand one (AC on donor car was working). the original one seemed to have seized bearings?

I have exactly the same problem as I had before with the original compressor.

AC clutch kicks in, compressor is noisy and doesn't disengage.
AC relay is very hot.
Pipe from compressor neerest the enging is very hot.
The one farthest away from engine is not cold.
No cold air is coming out the vents.
With the engine off the compressor can hardly turned by hand.
Radiator fan doesn't engage but does when engine idles for long enough.

Could it be anything other then the compressor?

Anything greatly appreciated... Thanks

The car is a 2003 V70SE 2.4 Auto by the way.

The engine fan must start and keep turning at least at slow regime a few minutes after starting the a/c. The fan controller can go bad. The a/c can still blow cold air but only at motorway speeds (when the wind is enough to cool down the evaporator.

You mention being hard to turn the compressor. I guess it's with the belt off? The pulley should turn very easily, in fact I give it a bump and it keeps rolling a few seconds. If it doesn't, then either the pulley bearing is seized or the clutch gap is too small (missing inside shims perhaps or there are "getto" shims on the plate that are too thick). The clutch gap is 0.3mm. A pulley bearing is not that bad to replace and it would be perhaps a more durable investment than gambling on a used compressor because these bearings are known to go bad.
As for the compressor itself (the side plate), it can be turned by hand with some pressure.

The pulley runs smooth and easy with the belt off but the plate a the front of the compressor is very stiff and difficult to turn by hand.
However I noticed it was easy to turn when it was outside the car.

Default Air Con Compressor Bearings seized

Hi All
I have a v40, air con compressor bearings seized, do not use Air Con. Is it possible to by-pass Air con compressor pulley using a shorter belt. If so, can anyone suggest suitable belt.

You'll have more joy asking in the forum section for your model of car.
