As with any of these new types of legislation, anything bought prior to the change are not affected by the new rules, so you are perfectly ok to use the integrated booster for younger children (if you choose to).

Volvo do not recommend it though. They say smaller children should stay in their backward facing child seat until they can't fit in it anymore as travelling backwards is far safer for a small child.

As an aside, it's far safer for everyone, regardless of size, in any form of transport. Think about that next time you get on a train.

I've flown as a passenger on RAF transport aircraft where the seats all faced backwards. Commercial airlines don't do it as they believe passengers wouldn't like it.
