northNH, I'm on the same continent but not the same country. I live just outside Toronto, Canada (eh!). It would be greatly appreciated if I could get my hands on the latching relay. Once that is wired up, how do you control the beams?

ddininio;

You did not confirm finding the original equipment Hi/Lo Beam Switch, but if it is present in the driver's footwell left side, I recommend assuring everything is working as it is supposed to before changing over to a Bistable Latching Relay Light control, because it's best not to introduce too many unknowns at one time...

If it is not present, you should at least find a harness which went to the switch (color codes: Yellow - Lights power in from Light Switch, Red - High Beams out, Gray - Low Beams out).

Your Options:

Option 1. To add Hi-Beam momentary flashing (anytime) relay which uses Directional Signal Stalk pulled back as the control (Wiring is present but Relay is not installed. Relay should be located with Backing Light Relay), see: http://sw-em.com/122flasher.htm

Option 2. (Full modernization) To change over to Bistable Latching relay, which uses Directional Signal Stalk as Hi/Lo Beam control, see here: http://sw-em.com/headlight_control_upgrade.htm (Dipper Switch harness should be rerouted to Footwell to Backing Light Relay area, and New Bistable Relay located there. )

Cheers

Hi Ron,

I know where the foot switch is located but it didn't come with the car. I have the wiring harness with the connections on each wire. Looks like someone just disconnected the wires and took the foot switch. I will check out the links you provided and decide which option to go with. thanks

Done the latching relay conversion on several Amazons. If you think about it the amount of extra wiring is minimal as you can re-use the existing cables to and from the dipper switch.
