Default Gard-X paint protection

Dealer trying to sell me Gard-X protection for about 350 for when my XC90 arrives in a couple of weeks. Anyone used this before?

Apparently they offer lifetime cover and will prepare interior and exterior - leather, paintwork etc.

Say no. All dealers try and flog it at point of sale as they know it is a real money spinner for them. 'Diamond Brite' 'Life Shine' 'Gard X' blah blah...

The mark up is incredible, you'll find the same items on eBay for a fraction should you really wish to bother with any of these.

Some dealerships will charge the price, add the sticker to one of your windows and claim it's been done, whilst the actual product(s), have left the premises and ended up on err, Ebay, for example.

Save your money and buy some items in your own time after pick up. Or if you are of the 'detailing' mindset, seek out a professional detailing company who will advise appropriately, and not entrust their apprentice 'valeter' to prep your expensive car.

Couldn't agree more. Along with GAP insurance, tyre insurance, alloy wheel insurance - they're all just different ways for dealers of all marques to wring a little more money out of a sale.
No doubt the dealers will plead that they have to resort to new "offers" now that we're all so smart as customers that we can beat them down to a bare minimum on the selling price of the car.
And at that point you might ask what the hourly labour rate is for service and repairs ........

Don't bother. As Lozza says, you can get the same 'protection' elsewhere for a fraction of the cost.

Specifically, I wouldn't let chemicals anywhere near the leather. There are reports on Swedespeed of the blond leather becoming discoloured after treatment.

My Grandson went through a phase of detailing cars and Boora was one of the products that he used.
Has anyone tried it?

http://www.boora.co.uk/boora-permase...-ptfe-sealant/

Other than an occasional jet wash, my Volvo's normally only get a good clean once a year, when in for a service.

Yeoman has applied Boora himself, mentioned here - http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=250230

Yes, I remember asking him about it.
At the time, I did not know what my Grandson was using, only found out recently.
