Now that winter is upon us, the gremlins have surfaced. My usually solid performer is acting up. The problem: after the engine has warmed up the idle is all over the place to the point of stalling, but not quite. When the electrics are on it's even worse. Aside from this, acceleration and power are as smooth as you like. Any ideas???

Sounds like an air leak to me ! Spray wd40 round the inlet manifold & injectors when the engine is running. If revs pick up ay all, then you know where to start ! Also, there is an air idle valve - check to see if working as per the haynes manual.

Cheers,

John.

Thanks John, I think I have it sussed. Did the usual with the WD40 on the ignition gear and injection system to no avail, and noticed a black knob under the inlet manifold toward the front. Once adjusted, this did the trick by upping the idle. Don't quite know what the black knob is for, but let's hope there won't be any side affects.

Cheers

Tony

That is the idle speed adjuster, mate, hence the increased idle speed.

All the best, Peter

Cheers, Peter. I didn't think the adjustment was this easy on EFI engines and Haynes wasn't very clear... If it was a snake, it would have bit me!
