Ok, so just got back from the dealer visit and some impromptu shopping.
The ride seemed perfectly fine and overall I was reminded why I had opted to go for the XC90.
The noise was an issue. The wife, who I had brought a long as she is more discerning, was nonplussed by it but I did and was put off by it. And, yes, I did refer them to this forum as a longstanding source of knowledge!
They didn't have a car on 19"ers for me to compare with so I don't know how much difference it makes.
I do take pride in my cars and like the idea of showing off this car and its gadgets. It'd be great to have all the nicer touches of the inscription trim. But the noise will definitely come up. If the momentum solved it, I may be swayed.

Hmm, at least I know the ride is fine for me!

I have to admit when I had an Inscription with 20" standard suspension for a day I did 400 ish miles on many different roads and did not really notice the road noise. Partly because I think the a/c fan was blasting as it was a hot day and I did not realise auto is only auto but not the fan.
My concern now is that with all the comments when I get mine I am going to focus on that.
I am still considering if I should try and get one again to try while there is still time to cancel my order, which I would be gutted about if I had to as i really like the car. I would not want the Momentum because you cannot have the walnut inlays.

Perhaps voice your concern to your dealer and see if you can get a car for an extended test drive, where you can try it on some different roads.

Honestly it's a brilliant car, but every journey I find myself getting annoyed at the road noise, and it takes the edge off the whole ownership experience.

This might sound a very crude experiment, but if the numbers mean anything to anyone, I used a sound meter app on my iPhone, held between the two front passengers while travelling about 50-60mph on an A road, it recorded an average of about 86Db.

You can get the walnut inlays as a dealer fitted option on the Momentum's dash and doors which is what I've done.

Hi, yes I think I saw your previous post, that could be a good option, would you be concerned though that will affect resale value as it will still be classed as a Momentum when selling on even if it has most Inscription options.
What did it cost you to change the inlays if you do not mind sharing.

I think your point about resale value is valid, particularly if you only keep the car for 3 years, say, and fund it using PCP. I tend to keep my cars for longer and don't use PCP so, for me, any potential loss reduces over time.

On the other hand, the entire industry is moving towards a more 'à la carte' specification for cars so it's possible that we'll see the resale value of options being priced in more favourably in future. (If you think Volvo offer a few options, try looking at the German marques!). Also, certain options do retain some value and/or make it easier to sell a car; in the recent past it it was/is aircon, satnav or sunroof. In future I suspect it'll be things like a 360 degree camera view or other safety systems.

The inlays cost £97 for the dash, £256 for the doors and I paid £480 in total, including fitting. Given that the factory fit option used to cost £220 (although that did include the area around the gear lever), I thought the £260 premium was something worth paying. You can change the gear lever area but it's a much bigger job. You might even get something for the removed inlays on eBay as it's been reported that the Brushed Aluminium Inlays mark easily.

Yes good points, I know what you mean with options as I have owned 4 Mercedes and Audi are even worse for the option list.
That was a good price from the dealer and I may look at that option, I also want to keep the car for a long time and that is the reason I spend a lot of time getting it just right. Thanks for the info.
