Default Spare Key Cutting

Hi everyone.. I have looked through the forums but have found it quite difficult to find much information on getting a spare key cut.

Basically, my Father recently bought a 1999 V70 and it only came with 1 key. He wants to get a spare (or two) cut. Now I realise that the key transponder needs to be paired with the car in order to start the ignition. And I also know that this can be given to the main Volvo dealer and they will cut another one no problem.

However, I was just wondering if anyone on here has any first hand experience with this problem and how they resolved it. Will Timsons cut a key providing they have the software to do so? Or are there any other independent cutters out there who would be able to do this?

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance guys!

Timpsons cut and coded a key for mine, for £35, but their ability to do so varies with which branch you ask, and IIRC it's not possible with the later cars (mine's a '97). Try asking them!

Cheers

The coding of the transponder will be the problem with a 99 car. Last time I did some serious research on this it was a Volvo only job with a big price tag, Timsons can't do the later keys, but our local independent locksmith shop reckons their autolocksmith has the computer software to do it now, unfortunately he never seems to be in the shop to discuss it directly with him.

Unfortunately with the later cars ,volvo sweden holds a unique number for your car which they will not even divulge to dealers who do the pairing .They somehow electronically incorporate that number at the time of making the key .Lots of people have tried to get round it but can't .
There is one way though, but it makes the car less secure .
You can hide the one kosher key you have, somewhere near the steering column ,possibly inside the cowl and that one will do the immobilizer bit and then any key cut the same ,but not coded ,will start the car .
Otherwise it is the price of an old volvo to get a proper one done .
That's why adverts often state "comes with two keys ",as they are so expensive to get .

You will not go far wrong speaking to either Steve or Bob at Braydons who will give you a very competitive price, I seem to recall key cut and coded with new fob £130ish plus VAT.

Lot of money yes BUt when you lose that 1 key £150 will seem like a grain of sand in the desert or perhaps a drop in the ocean

last month I paid £97 for a C70 key. And the remote unit: Supply & programme remote unit - £104.80. I'll order that, too.

Is it worth it? Definitely yes.
