Just had a flash of inspiration and think I may have located your knocking noise. You have fitted Meyle HD drop links - check that they are not fouling the subframe. I fitted Meyle HD to mine and very good they are too, but they are so much heavier built than the originals. On one side the knuckle on the drop link fouled the subframe, so I had to grind a little semi-circle out of the subframe edge to allow enough clearance. It only needed about 2-3mm extra clearance. The other side 'just cleared' so I did the same on that side to make sure. Worth checking.

Right so tightened up the drop links both sides, not by much if anything as already tight.
No rub on the drop links either.
Checked the ARB bushes, all good.
Turned the steering full lock left and full lock right, and noticed there is some play in the top mount piston and it does move a little, but the damn knocking is still there, although ever so slight enough to do my head in!

Oh, b*gger. I thought I had pin pointed your problem. At least it is one potential cause checked out and eliminated. Cannot think of anything else, other than strip down and check everything is fitted correctly. Bit drastic tho'

Just a thought did you check the plastic cap on the droplink bottom balljoint.

Mine rubbed one side and the only sign of rubbing was a scuff mark on the plastic cap just as if someone had pared a slice of plastic off with a potato peeler.
